Senior Capstone Project

In partial fulfillment of the requirements of the A.B. degree in Music at Brown University, Gus Benson spent his senior spring working on a collection of songs to comprise a senior capstone project. The project, entitled Shades of Blue, consists of a total of seven songs, entitled Nervous, In the Cards, Blueprint, I Need a Second, Phantom Pains, Trampoline and Haunted, which Gus wrote, recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered during the spring 2024 semester. The project is available for pre-release listening below (all rights reserved). Jim Moses served as the faculty advisor for the capstone project and was a vital sounding board, plugin guru, and first listener throughout the spring. Ethan Asis was also a contributor and co-collaborator throughout the project, who contributed his compositional expertise and ear throughout the project, and who debuted the project with Gus in early May. The project would not have been possible without Jim’s mentorship and Ethan’s support. Gus plans to release these tunes to DSPs later in 2024 as an EP, following a final revision process.
